Two Weeks In The Desert, Day Four: The Week In Review

It’s day four in the desert, and we haven’t yet lost focus enough to forget to do the Week In Review, so here it is.

The week started with a post on how the Rainiers got maddeningly unlucky in the second game of a doubleheader against Sacramento, missing out on a chance for a sweep.

On Tuesday we set the stage for the final game of the Rainiers longest homestand of the year, while girding our loins for what was to come.

Wednesday we rested, because that’s what we are doing this year.

We covered the latest roster moves in Thursday’s post, which also marked the start of our Two Weeks In The Desert series.

The Rainiers survived the MLB trade deadline mostly unscathed, for a change, which we covered on Friday.

And yesterday’s blog discussed how the Rainiers pitchers have defied the odds by scattering singles in Las Vegas – and we didn’t even jinx it!

RAINIERS DAILY

YESTERDAY: Tacoma scored five runs in the top of the first inning, and Robert Dugger had his best start of the season as the Rainiers coasted to a 10-1 win at Las Vegas on Saturday night. Dugger lasted six innings, allowing one run on just three hits. Jose Marmolejos was 4-for-4 with a home run, raising his batting average to a league-leading .360. Tacoma has won five straight games and is a season-best nine games over .500.

TODAY: Tacoma (42-33) at Las Vegas (37-38), 7:05.

OPPONENT AFFILIATION: Oakland A’s.

OPPOSING MANAGER: Fran Riordan.

SEASON SERIES: Tacoma leads, 6-3.

PITCHERS: LHP Ian McKinney (3-2, 4.94) at TBA

Scheduled Las Vegas starter Daulton Jefferies was called up by Oakland and is starting for the A’s today, so this is probably going to be a bullpen game for the Aviators.

ROSTER MOVES: Tacoma placed infielder Alen Hanson on the injured list with a hamstring problem. Infielder Amador Arias has joined the club from the Arizona Complex League to provide roster depth.

HOT HITTERS: Jantzen Witte has gone 31-for-86 (.360) over his last 25 games… Taylor Trammell has a six-game hitting streak… Jose Marmolejos is 7-for-11 during this series… Dillon Thomas has scored a run in five straight games.

OPPONENT NEWS: Las Vegas won on Tuesday to earn a 3-3 split of a six game road series at Salt Lake… Francisco Pena has a six-game hitting streak, with three homers during it… Lake Tapps native Nate Mondou had his streak of reaching base safely in 26 straight games end on Saturday… Oakland has optioned catcher Aramis Garcia and outfielder Seth Brown to Las Vegas – not sure when they will arrive.

BROADCAST: All games will be broadcast free on a live audio stream which is available right here.

Unfortunately, there is no traditional terrestrial radio station carrying the games at this time.
