Sunday means it’s time for a Tacoma Rainiers week in review, as seen through the lens of… this blog.
The week began with a post on how the Rainiers were bringing hot bats into the homestand opener against Reno.
Wednesday’s post attempted to answer the question, how is Kyle Lewis looking?
On Thursday it was time to react to the Donovan Walton trade.
The next day we celebrated the Rainiers reaching double digits in wins.
Yesterday was another celebration: a second straight win, with Marcus Wilson’s walk-off home run.
YESTERDAY: Reno took the series lead with a 9-3 victory over the Rainiers on Saturday evening. Tacoma led 3-2 after four innings, but ex-Rainiers (and Mariners and UW Huskies) outfielder Braden Bishop hit a two-out, three-run opposite field home run in the top of the fifth inning to give Reno the lead, and the Aces never looked back. Kyle Lewis was back in the lineup for Tacoma, going 1-for-4 with a single. Tacoma needs a win today in order to earn its first series split of the season.
TODAY: Reno Aces (17-18) at Tacoma Rainiers (11-24), 1:35
OPPONENT AFFILIATION: Arizona Diamondbacks.
OPPOSING MANAGER: Gil Velazquez.
SEASON SERIES: Reno leads, 3-2.
PITCHERS: RHP Corbin Martin (1-0, 4.76) at LHP Nick Margevicius (0-1, 12.75)
ROSTER MOVES: One day after optioning reliever Danny Young to Tacoma, the Mariners recalled him to replace the injured Erik Swanson. Outfielder Stuart Fairchild, who was designated for assignment on Friday, was traded to San Francisco for Triple-A infielder Alex Blandino.
HOT HITTERS: Mason McCoy has reached base in 15 straight games, hitting safely in 14 of them with a nine-game hitting streak… Zach Green had his six-game hitting streak end Friday night. Green has homered in four of his last six games… Sam Haggerty has reached base safely in ten straight games… Marcus Wilson has a four-game hitting streak.
OPPONENT NEWS: Reno went 2-4 in the six-game series against Round Rock… the Aces have a decidedly different look from last year, with a new manager and few returning players… Jake McCarthy has reached base in 17 straight games… Yonny Hernandez had a streak of reaching base in 15 straight games end Friday night… Grayson Greiner has an eight-game hitting streak… the Aces have former Rainiers Braden Bishop and Jake Hager.
BROADCAST: All games will be broadcast free on a live audio stream which is available right here.
Unfortunately, there is no traditional terrestrial radio station carrying the games at this time.
PCL SCOREBOARD: Follow all league games in real-time with links to broadcasts and Gameday screens right here.
- The Mets beat the Mariners late on Saturday, 5-4, to even the series.
- Paul Sewald got some sweet, sweet revenge against his former team on Friday night.
- Baseball America has a story (behind the paywall) analyzing the impact of the enforced pitch clock in the minor leagues. The average time of game across the nation is now 2:34, down from 2:59, with just about the exact same numbers of pitches thrown per game, and runs scored per game. What we have here is the exact same amount of baseball action being played in a shorter period of time, which… tah dah!… makes for a more exciting, entertaining, and watchable sport.
