Tacoma Rainiers Week In Review, June 19-25

It’s Sunday, so that means we do our Tacoma Rainiers Week In Review – even if it is a night game. The game starts at 4:05 Pacific, which is 6:05 locally here in Sugar Land where it is too hot to play day games this time of year.

We started things off with a preview of the Sugar Land series, as the Rainiers opened just their second-ever series at the PCL’s newest franchise.

Then we reviewed the opening game of the series, which was a rare scoreless tie after nine innings.

And of course the next day we had an offensive eruption.

The Rainiers had one of their most satisfying wins of the season in the third game of the series.

The appearance of Houston Astros starter Jake Odorizzi on a rehabilitation assignment made it very clear how the new pace of play rules have improved the game.

Tacoma returns home after tonight’s game and will open a six-game series against the Salt Lake Bees on Tuesday at Cheney Stadium. Our next post will come prior to that on Tuesday afternoon.

Tacoma was down 9-4 going to the ninth, and the comeback effort came up just short. Jarred Kelenic was 3-for-5 with two doubles and two RBI. Erick Mejia had three hits including a home run, and he drove in a pair.

Seattle has acquired outfielder Trey Amburgey from the Reds organization, where he was playing for Triple-A Louisville, and he is expected to join Tacoma on Tuesday.

He’s 13-for-52 (.250 average) during the streak… the Space Cowboys have received a big lift from infielder Enmanuel Valdez, who was called up from Double-A (where he was batting .357) on June 7. He homered twice in his Triple-A debut and added a three-homer game last week at Round Rock… Kent native and Gonzaga product Taylor Jones is currently with Sugar Land.
