Tacoma Rainiers

South Sound Summer by the Numbers

When the calendar flips to June, it sparks a feeling that’s unique from any other month. December’s for the sentimentalist holiday lovers, March ignites a fire in the bellies of the Irish. Basketball fans, too. September sends the kids back to school which causes a flurry of emotions for the entire household.

The birth of summer is its own thing completely. It’s a freeing feeling of revitalization.

It means class is out. Either that, or no more getting the kids ready for school. It also unlocks the true beauty of life in the South Sound. Sun activates fun.

There so many places to get outdoors and enjoy picturesque days in the Tacoma area.

Of course, here at R House, it means Rainiers baseball. We know you try to make it to every home game, but how does one fill those days where the team goes on the road?

We’ve got you covered for what Tacoma has to offer over 94 beautiful days ahead.

Summer is officially here on JUNE 21, and when that magnificent sunrise creeps over the mountains, signaling the dawn of a new season, the countdown will be on to make the most of it.

There will be 38 more Rainiers home games over which we’ll sprinkle in 5 Thirsty Thursdays, 4 NW Brew Wednesdays, and of course, 6 Friday nights of booming fireworks that light up the South Sound sky. We’ll play 342 innings of baseball, and maybe a few free innings, and our 6,500 capacity seating bowl will give you thousands of chances to share a beer or a game-winning high-five with a new friend.

And 38 home games means 26 road contests where you can kick off your shoes, put your feet up on the front porch and listen to the crack of the bat and the syrupy voice of Mr. Mike Curto through your radio dial.

Beyond baseball, Cheney Stadium has 9 Tacoma Defiance and 6 Reign FC home matches, giving you 16 more chances to cheer on your hometown teams under the iconic lights at R House.

As much as we love having you at Cheney, Tacoma has so much to give during the summer months, so it’s important to explore all there is outside of 19th and Tyler.

We’d recommend strolling down 6th Avenue while double-fisting cones from Ice Cream Social.

Grab patio pitchers at Hanks.

Close a night by hitting up Grand Cinema for some popcorn, cider, and a dazzling independent film on one of the summer’s 14 warm Friday nights. Leave work a bit early a few days and hit up happy hour a roof top patio in Ruston.

Take 5 walks or bike rides through the five mile drive at Point Defiance Park. Check out a tour of Fort Nisqually while you’re there.

Experience 3 unforgettable concerts at the Tacoma Dome and play pinball until last call 4 nights at the Triple Knock.

Even if you can’t do everything that you want this summer, you can wake up each morning and rest your head every night knowing that you live in a city where the possibilities are limitless, and that every day is another opportunity to have fun with friends and family in our hidden haven that we call Tacoma, Washington.
