There was something about the first time we saw it. A sprinkle of shelter sadness had begun to set in, and sports had been put on ice for the foreseeable future. Just like you, our Cheney Stadium team was beginning to see the writing on the wall. We were in this for the long haul.
That’s when a glimmer of hope revealed itself through a drawn window.
A small sign across the street, placed on a porch and carefully scrawled in crayon, shined like a beacon on a rainy Saturday morning in late March.
The message, powerful and unwavering, was simple in its two words: ALONE TOGETHER.

Seen in Central Tacoma, “Alone Together”
You’ve probably seen other signs like it. Plastered on the outer windows of hospitals and planted in lawns across Tacoma, the kids of R City are showing us the way through their signs of encouragement and hope. In all of the uncertainty of these times, it’s no surprise that they are doing so.
- MultiCare started their #HopeGrowsHere campaign to thank caregivers around the community.
- 100s of people have already signed up.
- They are creating their own #hopegrowshere signs.
- In business windows
- and along our sidewalks
- we are full of hope and thanks.

Seen in South Tacoma, “Rainiers Love”
What we’re asking is simple. In this time of shelter, we could all use a jolt of joy in our lives. Our community’s future leaders are motivating us with their art. Tag us in your pictures of homemade signs that you see on your walks around the neighborhood. Encourage your family to make some of their own and hang them in or around your own homes. We’d love to see them on social media so we can share your inspirational message with R City. We will continue to update this page with your heartwarming signs.
Thank you for your continued love and support. We can’t wait to spend time with you and yours at a ballpark near you very soon.
Until then, we remain inspired by this place we call home.
Always Together. We R Tacoma.
