Rainiers Lose Homerfest, Home/Road Gap Widens

The Rainiers have hit a speed bump in Las Vegas, losing three games in a row for the first time this season with an 11-6 defeat on Friday night.

The game itself was a home run festival, with the two teams combining to launch eight taters. Tacoma was out-homered, 5-3, and all three of the Rainiers were solo blasts while Vegas mixed in a three-run shot.

Tacoma’s home-road split is starting to get severe. The team is 9-2 at home, but just 4-9 when playing away from the friendly confines of Cheney Stadium. Maybe the club can turn things around and salvage a couple of wins this weekend, and get out of Las Vegas with a split.

Las Vegas Ballpark has been playing as even more of an extreme hitter’s park than I can recall in the past. The winning team in each game of this series has scored a minimum of nine runs. Last night’s Tacoma output of six runs on seven hits is not going to cut it – gotta plan on scoring 10+ right now.

Actually, let’s shoot for 20 runs in 20 hours. It’s a quick turnaround after tonight’s 7:05 game, with the traditional 12:05 Sunday start in Las Vegas. Lots of PCL baseball in a short period of time, coming your way!
