In a time when getting together to celebrate Tacoma with all of our favorite people is a challenge, this beautiful city is always our home, and a place that we’re proud to support. The healing power of community found at R House would be a welcome addition to life right now, and in the absence of sports, there are still ways to rep the South Sound and do some good for the city at the same time.
That’s why we’ve extended our “R Hat R City” program, which donates $5 from all team-licensed hat sales online and in-store at the We R Tacoma Team Store to local initiatives. For the next few weeks, your contributions are going straight to the Tacoma Urban League, whose mission is “to assist African Americans and other underserved urban residents in the achievement of social equality and economic independence.”
Tacoma used R Hat R City to donate over 340 meals to Downtown Tacoma Partnership’s Hero Meals project in just 25 days, and those who supported local restaurants and fed frontline workers deserve a huge thank you. Your unwavering support of the community shines bright in good times and all the rest. Now, together we’re on another mission to give the Tacoma Urban League the recognition and support that they deserve.
Tacoma is a city with a proud cultural heritage of Black leadership and excellence. The Tacoma Urban League has been at the backbone of much of that since 1968, and we’re honored to celebrate their contributions to our city and extended region with this project. Their work has been “devoted to empowering African Americans and other disenfranchised groups to enter the economic and social mainstream.” Buying a Rainiers or Defiance hat right now means that you’re helping the Tacoma Urban League achieve equality for all people in our country.
As of last week, the We R Tacoma Team Store at Cheney Stadium is now open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. PT with social distancing guidelines. Stop by to pick out your new hat, or shop online 24/7.

While we miss our fans immensely and recognize the last few months have been a difficult time for so many, this city’s heart has stayed on full display. Wearing the ‘R’ and proudly declaring your status as “Defiantly Tacoma” has always been about more than just baseball and soccer. It’s about standing side by side with the people of this city at Cheney Stadium and knowing that everyone around you shares common ground when they cheer for our teams. When opportunities arise to support others in R City, those who are truly Defiantly Tacoma will rise to the occasion.
Always Together. We R Tacoma.
