Defiantly Tacoma’s Guide to a 253 Valentine’s Day

Defiantly Tacoma's 253 Valentine's Day

The average human heart is a little bit bigger than a fist. Gross, right?

Over the last year and change, we’ve learned a lot about Tacoma. But one thing is still very clear: the size of Tacoma’s heart is anything but average.

A lot has happened since Valentine’s Day 2020, mostly not good, but that’s no reason not to celebrate love and local business this year. Some of our Tacoma favorites are still doing their part to make your holiday extra special, building community and love of city along the way.

We’re trying to remember last year’s Valentine’s Day through the fog of 2020, and the day was, by all the regular measures, “normal.” The city’s most popular restaurants and bars were packed, Tacoma’s singles were just the right amount of miserable, and Cupid’s arrow flung through COVID-free air.

This year it’s different, and that’s okay. Here’s three lovely events for you and yours to enjoy this Sunday.

253 Valentine's Day at Field Bar

From our friends at 6th Ave’s Field Bar, a socially distanced something to do for your big 253 Valentine’s Day!

Field Bar & Bottle Shop + vintage dealer Your Friend Caroline are hitting Valentine’s Day with wine tastings, take-home packages, and a popup gift shop.

Bask in the beauty and the now-times-novelty of being inside a bar with chill vibes. Cozy up with your sweet pea in the window seats at Field for a 30-minute wine tasting. Explore three pours of unique and glorious bottles of natural wine, hosted by owner and Tacoma’s sommelier laureate Brian Hibbard. Participants of the tastings also receive 10% off bottles from the tasting to take home. Field will be open for regular bottle shop goods as well, and the tasting experiences are designed to be naturally socially distanced.

While at Field Bar, peruse the special treats in the mini gift shop featuring Valentine’s packages of bouquets, chocolate, and wine, along with vintage goods and sustainable finds from Brooke Casanova of Your Friend Caroline.

Peaks and Pints beers and growlers

A text out to our friend Ron Swarner, co-owner of our favorite craft beer bar Peaks and Pints, revealed the following information about what you can expect from Proctor’s crown jewel on Sunday.

Here’s the inside scoop, since everyone loves a good screen shot.

We’ll finish our 253 Valentine’s Day coverage with a question:

Is anyone having more fun in the South Sound than the organizers and owners of Lincoln District’s Casita? Their never-ending housewarming party continues with a two-day affair this weekend that’s packed full of Valentine’s charm.

Sweet treats, mementos, and sensational pop-up shops are the theme of the weekend, so why not grab a masked-up lover and spend a fun afternoon in East Tacoma? I mean, who doesn’t love a photo booth?

However you spend your 253 Valentine’s Day, we hope it is a safe and memorable one. Follow your heart and listen when it speaks to you. As always, Keep it Defiant Tacoma.
